John is a music teacher with many years of experience. He plays folk, classical, jazz, blues and Celtic guitar styles and sings with the acoustic music duo Moonset. His gentle nature makes John an excellent teacher for aspiring musicians. From time to time John offers workshops for musicians of various skill levels. John is also available for private guitar lessons Monday through Friday, both day and evening, in Ballard.

Get twelve chords for the price of one, demystify the fingerboard and unlock the door to possibility! A single chord fingering can be played anywhere on the guitar fingerboard to produce a dozen different chords. Students in this workshop will use just a few chord shapes, moved around the fingerboard, to play several popular songs. John will reveal the secrets to mastering the barre technique. Learn exercises to strengthen the fretting hand and move quickly into the barre position.
Introduction to DADGAD Tuning

Sometimes called Celtic tuning, DADGAD tuning is good to have at your fingertips. Students in this workshop will explore chord shapes used for playing backup guitar and scale patterns used for melodic passages. We’ll do some rhythmic strumming, learn a finger style arrangement of an O’Carolan tune, and discuss some ideas for improvisation.
